piano (east wichita) This is a cable co. upright grand piano. The serial number inside identifies the unit being built in or close to 1902 according to some web research. It is in working condition, but no doubt needs tuning, although it still sounds pretty good. One key on the high end does not work, broken hammer or what, I'm not sure, my daughter never played anything that required that key. The piano is not in perfect condition, with scrapes and a few decorative pieces missing, that can be seen in the picture, but what can you expect for a 112 yr old piano? Comes with matching bench with storage for books or whatever. Must be willing to pick it up, this sucker is HEAVY. You are welcome to try it out or one of us can play a little so you can hear the great sound.

the keys are faded in color and C key to the right of middle C is missing its cover (shown in photo) the high C (highest note on the piano) has a broken padle but unless you're practicing eleborate pieces this won't be an issue.

1960 Kimball upright piano. Hasn't been tuned in a while. Tune will cost roughly 150. We will have it tuned for 100 extra dollars, but you will have to pick it up. No delivery. 1924 M. Schultz Upright. Reconditioned, repaired, regulated, tuned, rubber casters, delivered. Looks, plays, and sounds great! This piano was rebuilt by a piano factory worker who had been laid off during the Great Depression. The complex process included major surgery to the cabinet to create the illusion that the piano is smaller and more streamlined.

The M. Schulz Piano Company was a major contributor to the American piano industry at large. M. Schulz founded his firm in Chicago in 1869. The firm was later incorporated in 1891 as the M. Schulz Piano Company. M. Schulz built very high quality pianos and organs, and their instruments enjoyed a stellar reputation for their quality and tone. The hugely successful M. Schulz Piano Company manufactured and sold pianos under the names of Walworth, Bradford, Irving, and Maynard in addition to their premier line of M. Schulz brand pianos. After the turn-of-the-century M. Schulz manufactured a line of player pianos under the 'Aria Divina' brand name. The large firm of M. Schulz was forced out of business in the early 1930s due to the Great Depression.

The company was established in 1869 by Mathias Schulz, an immigrant born in Germany in 1842. After growing steadily for a few decades, the company was finally incorporated as a major business in 1891. He lived in a home on Damen Avenue where Big Star is located today in Wicker Park. Another Mathias Schulz investment, the Italianate-style building at 1537-9 N. Damen Avenue, still stands. After Mathias died in 1899, his son Otto became president.

The M. Schulz Co. built very high quality pianos and organs. Every piano sold came with a warranty that the instrument would last for ten years. As noted in their 1901 catalog, they prided themselves on paying close attention to every detail of piano production, from being made with the finest grade material to having the clearest and most accurate tone and scale in the industry.
