STUDENT ADVISEMENT PROCESS

ADVISEMENT OBJECTIVES PART 1
CURRENT OBJECTIVES 1992-93

Office hours

I have arranged my office hours in the evening to match the schedules of the teachers. Also, I am in my office with the door open most days.

Student Organization

I have assisted the Bilingual Education Student Organization to get started Fall 1992, and have been elected as their advisor.

Advisement overload

Due to a large increase in new students in bilingual and ESL this year, there is an extra large advisement load for a while.

SCHOLARSHIP, RESEARCH AND OTHER CREATIVE ACTIVITY

CURRENT OBJECTIVES 1992-93

Scholarship

I have a goal to submit the results of previous research for publication. I will submit some proposals for conference presentations on my research. I will attend local, state and national conferences in my field.

Research

I will begin gathering information and ideas for a study of bilingual education policy and practice in this area.

Other Creative Activity

I expect to submit several grant proposals.
I expect to publish a new book of songs and cultural ideas for the schools based on my research.

PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS

Current Objectives, 1992-93

Professional Organizations

I plan to be the catalyst for the initiation of a professional organization in bilingual education at the local level and to continue my activity in the state and national bilingual organizations, as well as membership in several others.

Local Community

I teach a daily early morning high school scripture class, lead a church choir, sing in the community choir, and give cultural presentations in the schools.

Administration

I administer a federally funded teacher training program at Western New Mexico University as 1/2 of my load. We fund 50 students each semester to take courses at WNMU.

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

PART 1
CURRENT OBJECTIVES 1992-93

Student Evaluations

Develop rapport with students as measured by BESO membership and student evaluations.

Meetings

Attend departmental and university meetings. Hold special meetings with key program and project personnel. Activate program and project advisory committees to reduce severe communication disorder now present.
